To my mind, the egg McMuffin is the best thing McDonalds has to offer. Even so, I’d far rather make one at home with a crispy fried egg, vintage cheddar, good quality ham and some chopped green onion. Now that I think of it, I’m not even sure that the girls have ever eaten a “real” one…
Homestyle egg McMuffin
(serves 4)
- 4 large eggs
- a splash of oil
- 4 English muffins, split, toasted and buttered
- 4 slices ham
- 8 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- salt and pepper
- Fry the eggs in an oiled frying pan, easy over so the yolks aren’t too runny.
- Place a slice of ham on one half of the toasted muffin, followed by two slices of cheese, the egg, and finally the green onions.
- Season to taste and top with the other half muffin.
I’m with you on this one. even better, but more work, would be using your own sourdough muffins.
I’ve never tried making English muffins. Would like to tackle that one of these days…
Since I know you are a sourdough maker, thought you might have tried making these muffins. I used to crank them out regularly using my starter and a tuna can to cut out the shapes, then cook them on the stove top.
Sounds interesting – I should give that a try. Always looking for ways to use up sourdough starter!
This looks really good! My family’s version is a fried egg with bacon and little bit of hollandaise sauce (out of a jar) on an English muffin – it’s like a cross between a bacon-and-egg roll and eggs benedict 🙂
That sounds pretty tasty too!
