Scarlett O'Hara

The twelve cocktails of Christmas
#5: The Scarlett O’Hara

Cranberry juice is the reason the Scarlett O’Hara makes my Christmas cocktail list – plus it’s very tasty. It’s also a good way to use up any Southern Comfort you may have lurking at the back of your drinks cabinet.

Like a surprising number of people, I had an unfortunate early encounter with Southern Comfort that left me unable to even smell the stuff without feeling queasy. When we discovered the Scarlett O’Hara a couple of years ago, it was the first time I enjoyed – or had even tasted Southern Comfort – since I was a teenager.

  • 2 parts Southern Comfort
  • 2 parts cranberry juice
  • 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
  1. Add the Southern Comfort, cranberry juice and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously then pour into glasses.

Dad and Margo have a little figure decanter that they would fill with SC and my memory of the smell was one of pleasure but I suppose I never had an unfortunate encounter with it!
