Krompir salata (Serbian potato salad)

27 Jun

With its sweet and sour dressing, krompir salata is a departure from our go-to potato salads – French potato salad and mum’s potato salad.

I made it to accompany these outsized Serbian hamburgers in our World Cup 2018 cook-off.

Roasted peppers from a jar worked well here. The recipe is adapted from this one on the Spruce Eats website.

Krompir salata (Serbian potato salad)
(serves 4)

  • 5-6 large potatoes
  • 4 green onions, sliced thinly crosswise
  • 1 roasted red pepper, diced
  • 2 Tb white wine vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ cup sunflower oil
  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water. Drain, peel and cube.
  2. In a serving bowl, mix together the potatoes, green onions and red pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the vinegar, garlic, salt, sugar, pepper and sunflower oil.
  4. Adjust the balance of salt, sugar and vinegar to suit your taste.
  5. Toss the dressing with the salad, and leave for a few hours for the flavours to marry before serving.

Family score: 8 out of 10
